 2014 Fund Raiser Challenge

Black & White and one other Color – the fund raising committee challenge all the members of Berkshire Quilt Guild to participate in this fun project by creating a quilted item within the guidelines outlined below.  At challenge end, the quilts become the property of the guild, and will be sold at Brookside Quiltworks to raise funds to support our programs.

Guidelines:

  • Entries can only be made using any black or white fabrics and one other color.  Gray tones are not allowed unless that is the chosen “other” color.  Embellishments and threadwork can also only be done in black, white or the chosen color.  The “other” color can be shades of the same color or solids but cannot be a color that fades from one to another; for example, an orange that fades to yellow.

  • The quilt can be of any shape, but the combined total of all sides of the quilt cannot exceed 160 inches (a 40 X 40 quilt equals 160 “).  There is no minimum size requirement.

  • Your entry can be a placemat, table runner, framed print, wall quilt or other.  Any presentation is allowed.

  • Your entry can be constructed using any technique you choose. (Applique, pieced, paper piecing, or mixed, other).

  • The entry must be completed, i.e., quilted or tied and bound.  There should be a sleeve attached, at least 4 inches for larger quilts and 2 ½ for smaller quilts and must be attached in a way that it doesn’t show when the quilt is hanging.

  • A label should be attached to the back of the quilt identifying the maker, the date, the name of the quilt (if applicable) and any other pertinent info you wish to document your quilt with.

  • Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the top winners by popular vote.

  • Enter as many times as you want, there is no limit.

  • Due date is the March meeting.

  • Quilts will then be hung at Brookside Quiltworks for the months of April, May and June and will be available for sale to anyone interested.  The price of each item will be determined with input by the quilt maker, the fundraising committee and Brookside Quiltworks.

Quilt Guild Bingo Game Card

Choose a variety of fabrics from the following categories: batik, floral, geometric, heart, leaf, holiday, novelty, paisley, plaid, solid, star, stripe or 1930's print.  Use a black square for the center.

Cut:  5 (2 1/2") squares assorted yellow and orange prints
         5 (2 1/2") squares assorted red prints
         5 (2 1/2") squares assorted blue prints
         5 (2 1/2") squares assorted green prints
4 (2 1/2") squares assorted pink and purple prints
         1 (2 1/2") square black print

Block assembly:  Join 5 yellow and orange prints to make a row. In the same manner, make 1 red, 1 blue and 1 green row.  Join 2 pink/purple pairs.  Join one pink/purple pair to each side of black square to complete one pink/purple row.  Join rows, placing the pink/purple row in the center, to complete one Bingo Game card block.

To make the rows choose one square from each of 5 categories; for instance, choose a batik, geometric, heart, novelty and 1930's print for the yellow row; choose a heart, holiday, paisley, solid and stripe for the red row; choose a geometric, leaf, holiday, star and 1930's print for the blue row and so on.  Each row should have only one print from each category, but rows of different colors can have the same print such as the red and the blue rows could both have a heart print in it.
